October 20th, 2008gps modules
October 18th, 2008I made some research online about gps receiver modules and found some really good tutorials and resources about the parallax gps module , to top it up , it has got compass capabilities which i can use for my audio feedbacks.
The arduino tutorial can be found here, http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Tutorials/GPS . There is also a very good section about this component in tom igoe’s “making things talk” where it is used in a few small mini projects.
I ended up buying it from a local company with a “nice” price tag and true enough, it is fairly easy to wire and to make it work on a basic level.

Meeting up with Reuben from Nus
October 18th, 2008I managed to steal some time from Reuben, the project leader of the Nus Mapping Potential Sea Level Rise in Singapore. He gave me much insight into the possibilities of Sea level rise should it hit singapore and asia, like for example the El nino which i never knew of. He also shared with me much knowledge about geographical means of gathering data for maps and also introduced me to softwares like Microdem and arcgis.
He also provided me with the Digital Elevation Map of Singapore and some of the soft copies of his project work on mapping singapore sea level rise. Thanks Reuben!
