Air Monsters is a mobile instrument that seeks to explore the issue of air pollution. This is achieved by a fictional narrative of invisible monsters that resides in the air which metaphorically represents the air pollutants in the air. The function of Air Monsters is to translate actual air pollution data into visual information in the form of monsters, from invisible to visible. These monsters each have a behaviour of their own and is directly affected by the various changes in location and environment.



Intention

This project started off from an inspiration I got while doing some work in a wood workshop, some of the students were using lacquer without any mask and I know for a fact that it is certainly not a very healthy thing to do because lacquer is known to cause sick syndromes from inhaling too much of it. That got me thinking of how I can translate these invisible air pollutants into something visible and which people would pay more attention to, rather than simply brushing it off.



Intention of this Work

Issues in air pollution over the recent years have not gone unnoticed , much research have been done and much have been written on topics regarding this area. The problem is, with all the research and huge amount of collected data, the general public does not really care or think about these problems that are really around them.

” Air Monsters ” is about translating mundane datas into a metaphorical representations in the form of monsters , simplifying data to a low level.
