process
The very initial test I did with the Figaro Tgs 2602 gas sensor
During week 04, I came up with the Idea of having an inflatable with self inflating spring mechanism.
Process of making my first prototype
Skeleton without Spring
I tested other gas sensors like carbon monoxide as well cause my original plan was to have 2 gas sensors.
Data testing- Testing the reactivity of the gas sensors that I had. It was essential that i know how reactive these sensors are so I can better make use of the data.
The first spring I tried using was the one I hacked from toilet roll holders. They were cheap and its length seemed ideal.
Prototype 02- The toiletroll holder spring proved to be a little too resistant. This would be a good chest workout more than anything else.
I was a fool and bought 30 of these small springs. I only found out that these were industrial springs when I got it and tried to compress it. It was impossible.
Prototype-03
One day, I was shopping in daiso and there were all these foams and sponges so I thought it could be just what I needed. And I was right.
Laser cutting - After finalising the design, the big spending came and I spent a hundred plus to do laser cuts. The finishing were not as nice as the cut though, there were some burn marks along the edges.
Putting the skeletal structure up was quite tedious where I had to drill holes on every board and run nylon threads through it so that it can support the weight of the structure. Then I glued the foam and boards up.
Skeleton completed
Skinning - proved to be the hardest thing to do in the whole project. There were so many intricate things that I had to take care of. First i had to get the perfect shape of the skeleton from experimenting because the shape was kind of irregular, then I also have to sew it, neatly. That for a guy like me was a bit of a challenge, i did ok though , also I had to seal the edges off to make it air tight, it was all very time consuming.
